Android 3.2 is an incremental platform release that adds new capabilities for users and developers. Here’s an overview of the new features and the developer APIs.
• Optimizations and refinements across the system for a better user experience.
• A compatibility display mode will provide a pixel-scaled alternative to the standard UI stretching. It allows developers to better target a range of screen sizes – not just 10.1 inch. Users can now get options such as Stretch to fill screen and Zoom to fill screen. The latter will make phone apps adjust to tablet screens, while reducing pixellation.
• Media sync from SD card: Apps can now load media files directly from the removable SD card.
The Android 3.2 platform is available as a downloadable component for the Android SDK. The platform includes an Android library and system image, a set of emulator skins and more. It comes with no external libraries.
Use the Android SDK Manager to download the platform into your SDK and start developing or testing against Android 3.2.
If you’ve already published an Android application, you need to test and optimize your application on Android 3.2 asap, so your application provides the best experience possible on the most recent Android-powered devices.
