This blog was born out of the experience of training our employees for the Magento Developer Plus Certification exam. It is not easy to find “ready-for-work” Magento talent in the job marketplace. So, we train our employees to appear for the certification. The training is pretty intense. It involves both classroom and on-the-job training under the guidance of senior certified Magento developers. This has yielded very good results for us and has added a lot of value for the employees too.

Magento experience is essential for successfully clearing the examination. It helps you to know the lay of the land. But Magento experience alone is not enough, Magento developer certification is challenging and it involves lot of work and effort. But with the right focus and preparation, it is an achievable goal.

Here are some tips to help you succeed in Magento Developer Plus Certification exam

Plan, Plan, Plan

Set a course of study. One of the first things that you have to do is visit Magento U site and Magento U courses page.

This site has a list of role based curriculum. You can choose the course and mode of the study that you want to take. This will be helpful if you have no one to guide you and you are on your own.

Also visit Magento Certified Developer and Developer Plus page to familiarize yourself with the prerequisites. For e.g. to appear for the Magento Developer Plus certification, you need to have worked in Magento Enterprise Edition.

A free study guide is also available for download. Study this guide thoroughly.

Get to know the syllabus and the question pattern. Review it, print it and post it and craft your own personal course of study.

We devised our study course based on our training needs.

Know your Strengths and Weaknesses

You should know your areas of strengths and weaknesses (i.e.) topics in which you are comfortable and areas where you need to focus your study and practice. It does not mean you should ignore your areas of strength. This is to turn your weakness to strength and increase your chances of clearing the exam.

Create the Technical Environment

Implement Magento environment and install a demo account of Magento Community and Magento Enterprise in your system. This will enable you to play around and implement the concepts that you study for the exam.

Get your Feet Wet

It is always good to know the theory and also how things get done in the world of Magento (i.e.) hands-on experience. This is an important point because concepts and the way Magento does things are not always the same – implementing theory within the Magento environment is a different ball game. Practice implementing.

Get Help

When you implement, sometimes you get stuck. This is where your friends and colleagues come into the picture. Getting help from your friends/colleagues who have cleared the exam is still the best way. They know the tips and tricks and will guide to clear the cob webs in your head and give the necessary push whenever you are stuck.

Time for Study

With work and other commitments you may find it challenging to set aside time to study on a daily basis. Magento Developer Plus exam is not an easy exam to pass, and it covers a lot of ground.  So it is critical that you set aside consistent and regular time for study and stick to the task at hand.

Book your Exam

Hope you found the tips and links useful. One more last thought. Book your exam before you begin studying for the exam.  This puts the onus on you to complete your study before the deadline, else you may keep procrastinating.

Good Luck.

P.S.: Magento sometimes offers free retake coupons on their site, so keep an eye out for those!
