At DCKAP we are encouraged to identify and attend workshops and conferences. At any given point of time, there is at least one DCKAPian or other who is traveling to conferences all over the world.

STeP-IN is India’s first and most comprehensive forum exclusively focused on Software Testing. The forum has played a pioneering role in shaping the evolution of Software Testing in India. It was a perfect platform to meet and learn from QA gurus.

Continous learning has been one of our mantras, and soon we (QA team) were flying to Bengaluru from Chennai for the Step-in Summit 2017.

We were excited and looked forward to the TestAutothon (30th Aug 2017) and to the Step-in Summit (31st Aug and 1st Sep 2017).

TestAutothon

A day before the summit, DCKAP team participated in the Test Automation Contest (TestAutothon). TestAutothon is like a hackathon but for testing professionals. The contest was to automate a business case within the given time limit. Participating in the contest and putting our heads together to find a solution was a great learning experience.

Key Takeaways From the Step-In Summit 2017

  • Quality Assurance & Testing fulfills a critical role in any digital transformation journey. Identifying the right tools, methodologies, and measures to assure customer experience is increasingly essential to success.

  • Technology, Workforce, Process, and Culture are the four pillars for building new age testing for digital disruption.

  • One of the key takeaways was to understand the problem of scale and how testers can help in achieving the design to scale using tools and methodologies. For e.g., applications like airline ticketing systems need to scale to handle heavy traffic, particularly during holiday seasons. So, an understanding of scale is essential for testing.

  • Today’s manual testers are the automation specialists of tomorrow. Today’s automation engineers will find their skills leveraged.Test automation needs to become a business discipline.

  • The keynotes, panel discussions, revolved around the current trending technologies like Machine Learning, IoT, Artificial Intelligence, and DevOps. (Read our recent blog on How AI Is Changing Software Testing?)

  • We need to extract the Continuous Integration execution data and use it to predict trends and behavior patterns.

Best Tweet Award

The meeting ended with a pleasant surprise – Sivaranjani of DCKAP team won the best tweet award.

One of the key learnings on the soft side of QA was “If you are not learning something new each day, you are not testing” – a quote by Gerald M. Weinberg. It was a great learning experience at STeP-IN SUMMIT 2017. Looking forward to attending the conference next year!!!
