Transforming ERP & eCommerce into One Unified System
About The Company
Wichita Industrial Sales is a trusted supplier supporting the construction, manufacturing, and oilfield industries across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. The company is known for its dependable service, broad product selection, and ability to meet customer demands quickly and efficiently. With a continually expanding inventory and a strong focus on reliability, Wichita Industrial Sales ensures its clients have access to the products they need, backed by consistent support that helps keep their operations running smoothly.
Why Integration Became a Strategic Priority
And as they moved on from their old IT partner, a few core issues came to light. These challenges made it clear that they needed a more connected and streamlined way of working:
- Complex Data Integration Requirements: Their DDI Inform ERP system lacked modern API capabilities for key areas like customer and product data, requiring custom-built workarounds. At the same time, product information was fragmented across systems, including a separate PIM for images, while inconsistencies in unit measurements and truncated descriptions further complicated synchronization.
- eCommerce Platform Limitations: An outdated Magento setup lacked the flexibility needed for modern operations, including proper shipping configurations (such as in-store pickup and delivery options) and dynamic, customer-specific pricing. Default mapping issues added to the inefficiencies.
Solution: Seamless Integration & Data Transformation
To overcome these challenges, Wichita Industrial Sales partnered with DCKAP to implement a reliable and scalable integration strategy.
They chose to switch from Magento to Evolution X. DCKAP Integrator then acted as a middleware layer connecting DDI Inform ERP with the new EvolutionX ecommerce platform. This allowed both systems to communicate smoothly without disrupting existing operations.
The project involved not just integration, but also a structured data migration. Over 14,000 products were successfully migrated to EvolutionX, along with multiple customer accounts mapped with accurate account numbers. The team was now assured a clean and dependable foundation from day one.
To keep data current and reliable, automated pipelines were set up with frequent sync intervals. Here are the key integration pipelines:
Customer Sync (Batch):
Customer accounts were synced from ERP to EvolutionX, ensuring consistency across platforms.
Product Sync (Batch):
Product data was transferred and maintained from ERP to EvolutionX, creating a complete and accurate online catalog.
Inventory Sync (Batch):
Inventory levels were regularly updated from ERP to EvolutionX, helping prevent stock discrepancies and improving order accuracy.
Sales Order Sync (Batch):
Orders placed on EvolutionX were automatically pushed into the ERP, eliminating manual entry.
Customer-Specific Pricing (Dynamic):
Pricing was dynamically synced, allowing customers to see their exact contracted rates online.
Shipment Updates (Batch):
Shipping and tracking details were sent back to EvolutionX, improving post-purchase visibility.
This end-to-end integration reduced manual effort, improved data accuracy, and created a connected system that supports daily operations. Wichita Industrial Sales now has a more efficient, scalable setup that allows their team to focus on growth instead of managing disconnected systems.
Impact: A More Efficient, Scalable Operation
With the new integration in place, Wichita Industrial Sales saw immediate improvements across their operations. What was once a manual, time-consuming setup is now a streamlined and reliable system that supports both day-to-day efficiency and long-term growth.
Improved Operational Efficiency
Data now flows automatically between systems, with inventory and orders updating every few minutes. Over 14,000 products stay in sync without manual effort, which not only reduces errors but also prevents overselling. As a result, the team no longer spends time on repetitive data entry, freeing them up to focus on more important work.
Significant Time Savings
With automation handling routine tasks, the need for manual account creation has been eliminated especially for one-time buyers. Customers can also manage their own accounts, which further reduces internal workload. This shift has made it possible for a small team to handle operations that previously required much more effort.
Accurate, Customer-Specific Pricing
Pricing is now pulled directly from the ERP, ensuring each customer sees the correct, account-specific rates. Built-in safeguards like “Call for Price” prevent errors, which builds confidence and avoids costly mistakes. This accuracy naturally leads to a better and more reliable buying experience.
Better Customer Experience
With accurate pricing in place, the overall shopping experience has improved significantly. Customers now have access to rich product content, clear descriptions, and multiple shipping options like pickup and delivery. Guest checkout makes purchasing easy for new buyers, while the platform is also ready to support larger B2B customers encouraging more users to rely on the website as a primary ordering channel.
Enabled Business Growth
The website has evolved from a simple catalog into a true sales channel. At the same time, consistent and accurate data across systems ensures that this growth is sustainable and well-managed.
Stronger Data Reliability
With systems now aligned, inventory, pricing, and order data remain consistent and dependable. The DDI Inform ERP continues to act as the central source of truth, which keeps operations stable as the business scales.
Overall, the transformation has been significant. Wichita Industrial Sales moved from a limited, manual setup to a fully connected and automated operation. Today, they have a scalable foundation that supports growth, improves customer experience, and allows their team to operate more efficiently than ever before.
If your business is dealing with disconnected systems, scattered data, or inefficient manual processes, it may be time to consider integration. These challenges are common and solvable with the right approach.
