GSS and Shopify Integration

About Magnuson Superchargers

Magnuson Superchargers is an automotive performance brand that develops and distributes hybrid Roots-type superchargers for the automotive aftermarket industry worldwide.

The company operates its B2C and B2B sales through Shopify, with approximately 150 dealer accounts, while Global Shop Solutions (GSS) serves as its ERP.

Why They Chose Integration

As Magnuson continued to grow its B2B and B2C operations, the team recognized an opportunity to make its order management more efficient and connected. Rather than continuing with manual processes, Magnuson chose to modernise the way Shopify and GSS worked together and partnered with DCKAP to build a more automated setup.

Here are the specific areas Magnuson wanted to improve:

  • Manual order processing: Shopify orders were being entered into GSS manually, adding time to the order process and creating opportunities for data-entry errors.
  • Limited ERP connectivity: GSS does not offer native REST APIs, requiring a custom approach to connect Shopify with the ERP. Its on-premises environment, hosted through ANSCloud, also introduced additional requirements for secure access.
  • Complex B2B customer mapping: With approximately 150 dealer accounts, orders needed to be automatically matched to the correct GSS customer account using the company ID stored in Shopify.
  • Pricing and discount conflicts: Dealer pricing was already discounted in Shopify, while GSS applied its own price-class discounts. Without the right logic, this could result in incorrect order totals.
  • No shipment sync: Fulfilment and tracking information from GSS was not automatically sent back to Shopify, limiting customers’ visibility into their orders.
  • Detailed data mapping: Orders contained business-specific information such as payment terms, freight codes, due dates, sales representative codes, lead times, and PO numbers, all of which needed to be mapped correctly between Shopify and GSS.

Together, these requirements called for more than a standard connector. Magnuson needed an integration that could work with its existing systems while supporting the way its B2B and B2C operations actually worked.

The Solution

Since GSS does not provide native REST APIs for this integration, DCKAP developed custom APIs and staging tables around the GSS data model to enable data exchange between the ERP and Shopify.

DCKAP also worked with Magnuson’s IT team and ANSCloud to establish the secure connectivity required for the GSS environment, including firewall configuration, IP whitelisting, VPN, and RDP setup.

Here are the two key integration pipelines we set up for them:

1. Order Sync: Shopify → GSS

The Order Sync pipeline automatically transfers Shopify orders into GSS, removing manual order entry while handling Magnuson’s B2B and B2C requirements. It manages:

  • B2B customer routing: Matches orders to the correct GSS dealer account using the Shopify company ID, with orders without a company ID routed to the designated retail account.
  • Order data mapping: Transfers details including PO numbers, payment terms, due dates, lead times, sales representative codes, and other required fields.
  • Shipping and freight mapping: Converts Shopify shipping options into the corresponding GSS carrier and freight codes.
  • Pricing logic: Prevents double-discounting by separating retail and discounted pricing within the integration.
  • Order reliability: Uses unique record identification to prevent duplicate orders and includes logic to handle system downtime.

2. Order Fulfillment Sync: GSS → Shopify

The Fulfillment Sync pipeline sends shipment information from GSS back to Shopify. Using the packing list number as the unique identifier, it automatically updates Shopify with fulfillment status and tracking information, giving customers visibility into their orders.

The Impact

With the new integration in place, Magnuson has a more connected and automated flow of orders and fulfillment data between Shopify and GSS. This has helped the team reduce manual effort, improve order accuracy, and give customers better visibility into their orders.

  • Zero manual order entry: Shopify orders now flow automatically into GSS, reducing manual effort and the risk of data-entry errors.
  • Faster order processing: B2B and B2C orders are automatically routed and processed according to the required business rules.
  • Better shipment visibility: Fulfilment and tracking information flows from GSS back to Shopify, keeping customers updated on their orders.
  • Accurate pricing and order data: Custom pricing and mapping logic helps ensure orders are processed with the correct values and information.
  • Greater reliability: Post-go-live issues, including discount calculations, state-code mapping, null SKUs, duplicate orders, and server downtime, were identified and resolved within days.
  • Ongoing optimization: Weekly sync calls between Magnuson and DCKAP were established to monitor the integration and address evolving requirements.

Looking Ahead

For Magnuson Superchargers, the integration created a smoother, more automated connection between Shopify and GSS while addressing the unique requirements of its B2B and B2C operations. From custom GSS connectivity to automated order and fulfilment sync, the solution gave Magnuson a more reliable way to keep its systems and customers connected.
